SGCC Becomes Official Partner of Beijing 2022, All Venues to Use Green Power

On 10 May 2019, State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) became an Official Partner of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

At a ceremony held inside Linglong Tower of the Olympic Park, Zhang Jiandong, Vice Mayor of Beijing and Executive Vice President of Beijing 2022, and Xin Baoan, President of SGCC, signed the partnership agreement.

Xu Qin, Governor of Hebei Province (where the Zhangjiakou zone is located) and Executive President of Beijing 2022, congratulated SGCC, the world’s largest public utility provider and an Official Partner of Beijing 2008, for partnering with the Olympics once again.

“We have high hopes for SGCC to provide Beijing 2022 with safe, reliable, and green power, and to set a great example for the growth of the clean energy industry in China,” Xu said.

With grids that cover 88% of China’s land area, SGCC provides consistently reliable power to over 1.1 billion people in 26 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities.

The company has also been a pioneer in supplying green energy. To ensure that all Beijing 2022 venues can capitalize on green electricity, SGCC will transmit the abundant wind and solar power from the Zhangjiakou zone to venues in Beijing and Yanqing zones with upgraded “smart” grids.

“SGCC will spare no effort to ensure reliable power supply for Beijing 2022 with cutting-edge technologies,” said Kou Wei, Executive Chairman of SGCC.

Cai Qi, Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and President of Beijing 2022, attended the signing ceremony. Beijing 2022 Executive Presidents Gou Zhongwen (Minister of the General Administration of Sport), Chen Jining (Mayor of Beijing), and Zhang Haidi (Chairperson of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation) were also present.

The signing of the partnership coincided with the beginning of the 1000-day countdown to the Olympic Winter Games. In 1000 days’ time, SGCC will help deliver a truly green Olympic Winter Games. Top of Form
